National Award-winning filmmaker Luit Kumar Barman filed a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, May 29, for making controversial remarks about Mahatma Gandhi during an interview. Barman described the comments as “highly derogatory” and an “insult” to the Father of the Nation.

The complaint was lodged at Hatigaon police station in Guwahati. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the police have stated that no FIR has been registered concerning PM Modi’s remarks against Mahatma Gandhi.

In his complaint, Barman expressed his outrage, stating, “This is a highly derogatory statement and cannot be acceptable by a citizen of India. As a citizen, we cannot accept insult to Mahatma Gandhi. No film is required to introduce him to the world.”

Barman further asserted that by comparing Mahatma Gandhi to a film, “Narendra Modi has defamed Mahatma Gandhi along with the people of India. Therefore, I request you to take action against Narendra Modi under relevant sections of law.”

This incident has stirred a significant reaction from various quarters, reflecting the deep respect Mahatma Gandhi commands in India and the sensitivity surrounding any remarks perceived as disrespectful to his legacy. The police are expected to review the complaint and determine the appropriate course of action.
