In a significant crackdown, officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) posing as lorry drivers in need of permits and registrations have uncovered extensive malpractices, including bribery, within the Road Transport Authority (RTA) in Telangana. The ACB conducted surprise searches at RTA offices and check posts across the state, deploying 15 teams on Tuesday.

The raids, carried out at 12 different locations, resulted in the seizure of ₹2.70 lakh in unaccounted cash. “This move came after multiple complaints were filed against private individuals operating within RTAs and RTA officials involved in collecting bribes for vehicle registration and other services,” said A.R. Srinivas, Director of ACB. He noted that the timing of the raids was not pre-determined but was triggered by the rising number of complaints.

The Mahabubabad RTA office topped the list with ₹61,900 in cash seizures, where the driver of the District Transport Office was caught illegally collecting money from applicants. This was followed by the Bandlaguda RTA office, with ₹48,370 worth of seizures. Other significant seizures included ₹43,360 from the Tolichowki RTA office and ₹34,050 from the Ashwaraopet Checkpost in Khammam.

The surprise raids aimed to address the rampant corruption and ensure accountability within the RTA. The ACB’s proactive measures highlight the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency in public services. The seized cash and identified malpractices will likely lead to further investigations and disciplinary actions against those involved.

As the ACB continues its vigilance, these operations send a strong message against corruption, reinforcing the commitment to clean and efficient governance in Telangana. The public is encouraged to report any instances of corruption, aiding the authorities in maintaining integrity within governmental departments.
