SIT Won’t Go Abroad for Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, Interpol Cooperation Sought: Karnataka Home Minister

Karnataka’s Home Minister, G Parameshwara, confirmed on Sunday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sexual abuse allegations against Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna will not be traveling abroad to bring him back. Instead, cooperation from Interpol has been sought to share information about the accused. Parameshwara emphasized the sensitivity of the case, cautioning political leaders against making public statements or sharing sensitive information related to the ongoing investigation.

Prajwal Revanna, aged 33 and grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, faces charges of sexually abusing several women. His alleged departure abroad on April 27, a day after the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, has sparked a political controversy. Revanna was the joint candidate of the BJP-JD alliance from the Hassan Lok Sabha segment.

Parameshwara clarified that the SIT’s approach involves obtaining information through Interpol channels. He stressed the need to maintain confidentiality to avoid hindering the investigation process.

Responding to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s assertion of a conspiracy behind the arrest of BJP leader Devaraje Gowda, Parameshwara refrained from direct comment, emphasizing the need for discretion given the gravity of the case. He urged public figures to refrain from making statements that could compromise the investigation, warning of potential legal actions if statements are deemed sensitive or misleading.

Regarding queries about serving notice to JD leader H D Kumaraswamy, Parameshwara acknowledged Kumaraswamy’s past role as Chief Minister and expressed confidence in his seriousness regarding the case. He urged all individuals to exercise caution before making public statements or sharing information, highlighting the importance of preserving the integrity of the investigation process.
