Amit Shah to Lead Massive Roadshow in Assam’s Silchar for BJP’s Lok Sabha Campaign

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to conduct a massive roadshow in Assam’s Silchar on Sunday as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The event aims to boost support for the BJP’s candidate, Parimal Suklabaidya, and is expected to attract more than one lakh supporters.

Amit Shah will arrive at Silchar Airport on a special aircraft at 4:10 pm and then proceed to Silchar town via helicopter. According to Member of Parliament Rajdeep Roy, the roadshow will start at around 4:30 pm, beginning at the District Sports Association (DSA) playground and ending at the Chittaranjan Statue Point, covering a distance of approximately 1.5 kilometres.

Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will join Shah at the roadshow, where they will campaign for the BJP’s candidate from the Silchar Lok Sabha seat, Parimal Suklabaidya. Following the Election Commission’s delimitation process last year, Silchar became a reserved seat for Scheduled Caste candidates. Suklabaidya, a five-time legislator from Cachar district, holds multiple portfolios in the Assam cabinet. Sarma expressed confidence that Suklabaidya would win with a margin of 2 to 3 lakh votes over the opposition candidates.

To ensure security during the event, central security agencies and top Assam police officials conducted a mock drill on the streets of Silchar. Authorities have implemented multi-layered security measures to maintain order during the roadshow. “We have adequate security forces, and there will be multi-layered arrangements. Today we are doing a mock drill to assess the arrangements,” a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s scheduled visit to Assam’s Karimganj district on Sunday has been cancelled due to bad weather. Party workers cited thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on Friday night as the reason for the cancellation, noting that high security measures were required for Kharge’s visit, which became unfeasible due to weather conditions.
