Former BJP MP and Moradabad Lok Sabha Candidate Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Passes Away at 72

Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha seat, died at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Saturday. He was 72 years old and had been unwell for some time. A senior party leader confirmed that he had a throat problem, which required an operation. Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar went to AIIMS for a check-up on Friday, shortly before his passing.

Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar was one of 12 candidates in the poll fray from Moradabad, which went to polls in the first phase on Friday, April 19. He had previously served as the Lok Sabha MP from Moradabad from 2014 to 2019 but lost the 2019 elections to SP’s ST Hasan, who was jointly fielded by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). Prior to his stint in the Lok Sabha, Kumar was a five-time BJP MLA from the Thakurdwara assembly constituency in Moradabad from 1991 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2014.

Sarvesh Kumar leaves behind his wife, Sadhna Singh, a son, and a daughter. His death has led to an outpouring of condolences from party members and political leaders.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow in a post on the social media platform X, saying, “I am shocked by the demise of BJP candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency and former MP Kunwar Sarvesh Singh ji. This is an irreparable loss for the BJP family. My condolences are with the bereaved family. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and provide strength to the bereaved family and their supporters to bear this loss. Om Shanti.”

The BJP has yet to announce a replacement candidate for the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat. The passing of Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar has left a significant gap in the BJP’s political landscape in Uttar Pradesh, and he will be remembered for his contributions to both the state assembly and the Lok Sabha during his career.
