Former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray Takes Mumbai Local Train, Vows to Scrap Vadhavan Port Project

In a bold move highlighting his connection with the people and his commitment to their concerns, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray was spotted traveling in a Mumbai local train after visiting Palghar earlier in the day. The Shiv Sena (UBT) shared a video of Thackeray alongside party leaders inside the train, emphasizing his down-to-earth approach to governance.

Thackeray’s visit to Palghar coincided with his vow to scrap the controversial Vadhavan port project, which has faced opposition from local fishermen. Addressing a rally in Boisar, Thackeray reiterated his stance against the project, emphasizing the Shiv Sena’s historical opposition to it during their previous tenure in power.

Asserting his determination to prioritize the concerns of the people over infrastructure projects, Thackeray issued a stern warning to both the Centre and the Maharashtra government, stating, “If you are going ahead with the Vadhavan project not taking into consideration the concerns of people, then go ahead. We will run the people’s bulldozer over this government.”

The Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded Bharti Kamdi, a long-time grassroots worker, as its candidate from Palghar, further underscoring the party’s commitment to grassroots representation and addressing local issues. Thackeray’s visit and strong stance against the Vadhavan port project align with the party’s agenda of advocating for the interests of ordinary citizens.

Despite receiving clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change earlier this year, the Vadhavan Port project continues to face opposition from Thackeray and local communities. The project, estimated at ₹76,220 crores, has been a subject of contention between development objectives and environmental concerns, reflecting the complexities of infrastructure development in sensitive regions.
