The central election committee (CEC) of the Congress has reportedly given its nod to the names of 12 candidates from Maharashtra for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Among those finalized is Praniti Shinde, the daughter of former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is likely to contest from the Solapur seat.
While the party has finalized its candidates, it is yet to announce the formal seat-sharing formula with its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners – the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Sources indicate that the MVA parties are scheduled to convene on March 21, following which the third list of Congress candidates will be released.
Maharashtra holds significant political importance with its 48 Lok Sabha seats. In the 2019 elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including the undivided Shiv Sena, secured victory in 41 out of the 48 seats. The NCP secured four seats, while the Congress managed to secure just one seat.
With the electoral landscape evolving and alliances being redefined, the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra are poised to be closely watched, especially with the Congress announcing its candidates and awaiting formal seat-sharing agreements with its coalition partners.
