Former Congress Leader Ashok Chavan Denies Meeting Sonia Gandhi Before Quitting Party

Ashok Chavan, who recently left the Congress party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), refuted Rahul Gandhi’s claims that he met Sonia Gandhi before his departure. Chavan dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating that he never had a meeting with Sonia Gandhi and resigned without any prior discussion.

Ashok Chavan, the former Congress leader who recently switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has denied meeting Sonia Gandhi before his departure from the grand old party. Refuting claims made by Rahul Gandhi during a rally, Chavan dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

Speaking in a video message, Ashok Chavan clarified that he never met Sonia Gandhi before resigning from the Congress. He emphasized that until he announced his resignation, his decision was kept private, and no discussions were held with party leadership.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks made during a rally in Mumbai, Ashok Chavan stated that while no names were mentioned, if the comments were directed at him, they were illogical and devoid of truth. He reiterated that his decision to resign was personal and not influenced by any emotional exchange with Sonia Gandhi.

After leaving the Congress party, Ashok Chavan joined the BJP and was subsequently nominated for the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra. He was later elected unopposed to the upper house of parliament.

Ashok Chavan’s departure from the Congress comes amid political shifts in Maharashtra, adding to speculation about the realignment of political forces in the state. Despite the controversy surrounding his exit, Chavan remains focused on his new role within the BJP and his responsibilities as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
