In a bid to ensure a level playing field in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the removal of several key officials in six states. Home Secretaries of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, along with the Director General of Police in West Bengal, are among those affected by the directive. Additionally, authorities have removed officials from Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, as well as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner and other officials in Maharashtra.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken proactive measures to ensure fairness and transparency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by ordering the removal of several officials across six states. The move aims to create a level playing field for all political parties and candidates participating in the electoral process.
According to sources, the ECI has directed the removal of Home Secretaries from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, authorities have asked the Director General of Police in West Bengal to step down from their position.
In addition to these high-ranking officials, the ECI has mandated the removal of the Secretary of the General Administrative Departments in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh.
The directive comes shortly after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule. Under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the ECI has emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
Furthermore, the commission has ordered the removal of Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, as well as additional commissioners and deputy commissioners. This decision underscores the ECI’s commitment to ensuring a fair and impartial electoral environment.
While most states have complied with the ECI’s directive, Maharashtra has been singled out for failing to transfer certain municipal commissioners, as well as additional and deputy municipal commissioners, involved in election-related duties.
