The remarkable journey of ISRO Chairman S.In his upcoming Malayalam autobiography titled “Nilavu Kudicha Simhangal,” meaning ‘Lions that drank the moonlight,’ Somanath is poised to unveil his journey from depending on an old bicycle and modest lodgings to minimize college expenses to leading India’s space endeavors, showcasing his ascent from modest beginnings. This narrative of resilience and achievement delves into Somanath’s life, spearheading ambitious multi-crore rupee missions, including the moon and upcoming solar endeavors.

The autobiography, scheduled for release in November 2023 and published by Kerala-based Lipi Publications, is more than a personal account. Somanath emphasizes that it serves as an inspirational story, focusing on the power of hard work and perseverance amid life’s challenges.

Crafted against the backdrop of ISRO’s monumental achievements, the book highlights notable successes like Chandrayaan-3, propelling India to a prestigious global standing. Despite the demanding schedule of overseeing projects like the Aditya-L1 solar mission and the Gaganyaan test vehicle, Somanath found time to share his narrative.

Reflecting on the autobiography, S. Somanath clarified, “It is the story of an ordinary village youth who doesn’t even know whether to join engineering or BSc… about his dilemmas, right decisions he made in life, and the opportunities he received in a country like India.” The intent is clear – to inspire individuals to pursue their dreams amid life’s adversities.
