PM Modi to Inaugurate Kolkata Metro’s Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Section and Other Metro Lines

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate key sections of the Kolkata Metro during his visit next week. The release on March 3 confirmed the inauguration of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section, Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro section, and the Taratala-Majerhat section.

The focus of these inaugurations is on enhancing urban mobility options for the public. The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of the East-West Metro corridor is particularly noteworthy for having the first transportation tunnel under any major river in India, passing under the River Hooghly. The river separates Kolkata and Howrah cities on its east and west banks, respectively.

The release highlighted the significance of the Howrah metro station, situated at the deepest level among metro stations in India.

In addition to these metro sections, PM Modi’s visit will cover multiple states, including Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar. The inauguration of these metro lines aligns with the government’s efforts to improve urban transportation and connectivity in major cities.
