Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur District Prepares for Pulse Polio Drive Targeting Over 2 Lakh Children

In Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, the District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO), P. Jagadeeswara Rao, announced plans to administer pulse polio drops to approximately 2,08,163 children under the age of five on March 3 (Sunday). The health department has made available about 2.65 lakh doses of polio vaccines for the initiative.

To facilitate the vaccination drive, 1,002 polling booths and 74 mobile centers have been set up across the district, with 4,220 vaccinators and 92 supervising staff appointed to ensure the smooth execution of the program. Special vaccination centers will be established at key locations such as the RTC bus stand and railway station to accommodate those traveling into the district.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children for vaccination at Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs), and all ward sachivalayams. The DMHO highlighted that there are 106 high-risk areas in the district, including slums and brick kiln industries, where around 767 children reside. These areas will receive special attention during the campaign.

In case any child misses the vaccination on March 3, a door-to-door campaign is scheduled for March 4, 5, and 6 in the corporation limits, conducted by a team of 2,004 staff to ensure comprehensive coverage.
