Sheena Bora Murder Case: Indrani Mukerjea Seeks Interim Bail After Testing Positive for COVID-19

Indrani Mukerjea, the primary accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, has appealed for interim bail on health grounds after testing positive for COVID-19.

The prosecution presented its response to her bail plea on Thursday before Special CBI court Judge J.C. Jagadale.

The court confirmed the receipt of Ms. Mukerjea’s written submissions on the bail request, along with a letter from the Byculla jail.

Having tested positive for the novel coronavirus in late April, Ms. Mukerjea reached out to the court, citing health concerns for seeking interim bail.

Meanwhile, her regular bail application is currently awaiting a decision from the Bombay High Court.

The high-profile case involves the alleged murder of Sheena Bora (24) in 2012, with Mukerjea accused of orchestrating the crime along with her then driver Shyamvar Rai and Sanjeev Khanna. The victim was purportedly strangled to death in a car, and her body was subsequently burned in a forest in Raigad district.

Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in August 2015, and later, her husband, former media baron Peter Mukerjea, was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy. Peter Mukerjea is presently out on bail, granted by the high court earlier this year.
