Union Ministry of Law and Justice Announces New Chief Justices for Six High Courts

In a significant development, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice has officially notified the appointments of new Chief Justices for six High Courts across the country. The High Courts of Allahabad, Gauhati, Meghalaya, Orissa, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan are set to witness leadership changes.

Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, formerly the acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, has been elevated to the position of Chief Justice for the Rajasthan High Court. Meanwhile, Justice Arun Bhansali, who served in the Rajasthan High Court, will now preside as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. Justice Vijay Bishnoi, another esteemed member of the Rajasthan High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

Further, Justice S. Vaidyanathan from the Madras High Court has been selected to assume the role of Chief Justice for the Meghalaya High Court. The Uttarakhand High Court will witness Justice Ritu Bahri, formerly the acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as its new Chief Justice. Additionally, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh from the Patna High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

These appointments follow the recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium in December of the previous year for Justices Arun Bhansali, Vijay Bishnoi, and M.M. Shrivastava as Chief Justices. Notably, the collegium had earlier, in November 2023, recommended Justices Vaidyanathan, Sharan Singh, and Bahri for their respective high courts, reflecting a meticulous and well-considered selection process.
