Election Commission Announces Schedule for 18th Lok Sabha and State Assembly Elections

In a significant development, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar unveiled the much-awaited schedule for the 18th Lok Sabha elections and State Assembly elections in four states – Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim. Mr. Kumar confirmed the scheduled counting of votes for June 4.

The announcement of the schedule has prompted the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, ensuring fair and impartial conduct throughout the electoral process, as mandated by the Election Commission.

The Lok Sabha elections will unfold in seven phases spanning the country, commencing from April 19, 2024, and concluding on June 1, 2024.Voters across the nation will have the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights and shape the future of governance. The culmination of this electoral exercise will witness the counting of votes on June 4, 2024, marking a crucial milestone in India’s democratic journey.

This announcement follows the recent appointment of retired bureaucrats Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as Election Commissioners, a decision ratified by a high-powered panel chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 14. The inclusion of these seasoned individuals further bolsters the Election Commission’s resolve to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections.
